I've been playing around with black and white conversions lately using Adobe Lightroom CC. It's been years since I shot with black and white film. I have always loved how black and white looks. It really does take out distractions and allow you to focus on the subject. Done correctly, it can really make a photograph even more powerful. With the below images of my son, I spent time learning what the blacks, whites, highlights, shadows, and exposure (or midtones) sliders did in Lightroom. It's not enough to just convert a RAW image to black and white, you still have to adjust the settings.
